Food & Cooking Blog

With summer arriving just around the corner, now is the perfect time to host a barbeque. If you plan on attending a barbeque hosted by either a family member or a friend and don't want to arrive empty handed, consider ordering takeout from a Chinese restaurant nearby. There are plenty of dishes that are perfect for the occasion. You can easily call the restaurant in advance and pick up your order before heading to the barbeque.

Aromatic Marbled Tea Eggs as an Appetizer

While waiting for all of the meat skewers, vegetables and steaks to grill to perfection, it's nice to have something to snack on. Aromatic marbled tea eggs are the perfect appetizer for a barbeque. Aromatic marbled tea eggs are a popular snack in China. Hard boiled eggs are marinated in a broth made of a variety of ingredients like soy sauce, star anise, cinnamon and black tea for a unique and refreshing taste. The eggs can be eaten hot or cold.

Meat Skewers Seasoned with Cumin and Other Spices

If you'd like to bring something that can be eaten as a main dish, ask your local Chinese restaurant whether they would sell you either grilled or raw meat skewers. These meat skewers are usually either lamb or beef, and the meat is seasoned with cumin, coriander, chilli and an assortment of other spices. The spices bring out the natural flavors of the meat, and the chilli gives the skewers an extra kick. Meat skewers that are made from Chinese restaurants that specialize in Xinjiang dishes taste the best, as the meat skewers originated from that region of China.

Mango Pudding with Evaporated Milk for a Refreshing Dessert

After a large meal, there's nothing better than sitting down and relaxing with a sweet and refreshing dessert. Look for Chinese restaurants that offer mango pudding. The soft and sweet pudding often contain chunks of mango and is topped with evaporated milk. The mango pudding has a similar texture to pot de creme. Scoop up a bit of mango pudding and a bit of evaporated milk in every bite to get the full experience.

There are plenty of other Chinese dishes that would be perfect for a barbeque. It's best to order dishes that can sit a bit without compromising their taste or texture. If you're in a rush, make sure to order your takeout well in advance, so you won't have to wait around for your order.
